On September 5, 2003, American magician and illusionist David Blaine stepped into a transparent Plexiglass box on the south bank of the Thames, near Tower Bridge – and began an endurance stunt he called ‘Above the Below.’ For more than six weeks, 30-year-old Blaine was locked inside this 3x7x7-foot box – which was suspended 30ft in the air – without any food or nutrients. His only nourishment was 4.5 litres of water a day.
